Interdisciplinary Health Care Services

The interdisciplinary health care team at Spruce Lodge is made up of highly skilled, and trained health care professionals that are experienced in caring for individuals who are eligible to enter a long-term care home.

Our Medical Director oversees the quality of medical care provided. Residents may continue to have their personal physician provide care to them in the home, if they have a local practice. These physicians will be expected to meet the standards and criteria for attending physicians.

The Medical Director and the Director of Resident Care are responsible for overseeing all medical and nursing services. Services are dedicated to enhance the quality of life for all of our residents and their families.  Our interdisciplinary team respect the individualized choices of our resident and are professionally trained, knowledgeable and sensitive to the unique care needs of all our residents.  Excellence in care and compassion is achieved through continuous quality improvement and transparency in our interactions with residents and their families.

Spruce Lodge supports a model of nursing care that includes nursing clinical expertise in skin and wound care, continence care, falls and prevention management, pain management, infection control and palliative care. Our Registered Nurses, Registered Practical Nurses, and Personal Support Workers provide direct nursing care, on a 24-hour basis.  Additional nursing staff includes a Clinical Resource Nurse, Team Leaders, Nursing Rehab, Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) Coordinators, and Behavioural Support Ontario Leaders (BSO).  Nursing practice is guided by the professional practice standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the best practice guidelines of the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario.

In addition to our nursing staff, residents also receive care from our other team members including clinical Pharmacists, Dietitian, Physiotherapists and accompanying Occupational/Physiotherapy Assistants (OTA/PTA), Music Therapists and our Spiritual Care Coordinator.

If you have any questions, please contact our Director of Resident Care at (519) 271–4090 ext. 2221.

Every time I'm at Spruce Lodge and get to spend time with mom, I'm so reassured that she is receiving top quality care.  The personalized attention you give to all of the residents is very heartwarming to witness because it is genuine and true.  You are a wonderful group who make a big difference in the lives of people in your care.
